Ron Paul on Campaign Goals at GOP Convention: Those Paul People
A coworker of mine last week asked me about the future of the Ron Paul 2012 Campaign. I suggested that we plan to affect the GOP platform. Soon afterwards, Ron Paul presented clear guidance to his delegates.
"The real war is the war of ideas."
Even delegates pledged to Romney may freely vote for liberty when the 2012 GOP platform is created at the party convention in Tampa. A fair percentage of the pledged Romney delegates who going to the GOP Convention are Ron Paul people. Another fair percentage of delegates (no matter to whom they are pledged) agree with us on many issues.
Paul said the successes of his campaign over the past five years have just been magnificent.
The most important thing, I think, is the awakening of a whole new generation, excited about these views and who are participating. And . . . there's no way it's going to be stopped.In the video, he alerted us to the challenge issued by Rick Santorum in the form of a Washington Post report, Rick Santorum: Ron Paul supporters seeking convention fight by Felicia Sonmez. Without identifying any issue, Santorum vaguely warned about the need for "principled conservatives" to "counter-balance the effects of those Paul-people."
Ron Paul responded to Santorum's challenge by acknowledging Santorum's point. Ron Paul said, "We want to make our point. And it is true that the Santorum people are principled. . . . but they are also authoritarians. They want to use the government to impose their will on us as individuals."
Ron Paul goes on describe how the liberty movement has been so successful in the last five years, and why. He referenced the coming economic collapse. "We are in the middle of that now. The failure of Keynesianism, failure of central banking, failure of fiat money, [and] failure of authoritarianism." Paul stated the ongoing economic disintegration is creating a vacuum. He said, "we don't want the authoritarians to fill the vacuum."
I think what we do in the next five months is that we build and we continue to accumulate delegates, and alternates, fellow travelers.
We can't let up now. We have to present the case in a very positive way.
Our delegates are welled-versed. The know the philosophy. We know what the platform oughta say. It should be a different foreign policy, protection of civil liberties, [and] curtailing of Executive Branch power to go to war and run drone warfare, assassin[ate] American citizens, and promot[e] what's in the NDAA.
So many things that are crucial. We see an opening now to really have an impact. Not just this weekend, but the future for this country.
I think we are on the verge of really having a climatic ending of this campaign. [It] will be just the beginning of the end of the big government authoritarians if we do our job right.

Thoughts on Rand Paul's Statement of Support for Romney
There is a lot of fallout, consternation, anger about a recent e-mail sent by Ron Paul to folks in his campaign, followed by an statement by Senator Rand Paul (Ron Paul's son) that Mitt Romney will receive the GOP nomination and that he (Rand) would support Mitt Romney. These two events have caused many in the liberty movement to cry "betrayal" and to react viscerally against Rand Paul, and even Ron Paul.
However, people need to be pragmatic about the progress of the liberty movement. We have made tremendous inroads in the past five years or so. In fact, the liberty movement is full of young people who are involved in the GOP party politics, and who are going to create influence and affect change in the status quo of the establishment GOP platform. The neocons are in trouble and waning, and liberty is waxing.
Is there any real practical chance that Ron Paul can win the GOP nomination? Ron Paul himself said that he cannot in the email. Was that a betrayal, or recognition of the political reality? What advantages does the recognition of Romney's eventual nomination allow to the Ron Paul Campaign?
First, Ron Paul has not endorsed Mitt Romney. It remains to be seen if he will endorse him. However, Romney needs the endorsement because he needs the liberty movement to win the Presidential election. Romney has frequently observed that Ron Paul's followers are much more enthusiastic and energized than are the establishment people that follow his campaign. Romney's power is negative (anybody but Obama) while Paul's power is based on an idea. The idea is where the power is derived.
Rand Paul said he preferred Ron Paul his father but he would support Romney. Is that radical? No. Romney, with all his neocon and Fed attributes, is still an improvement over Obama. He will be a bigger improvement if his campaign can be influenced in the

I see nothing wrong with the sentiments expressed in this press release. In fact, it contradicts the neocon platform almost directly. It remains to be seen if this is mere rhetoric. However, it is certainly a step in the right direction by Governor Romney, and suggests that his position will defer to the liberty ideas espoused by both Ron Paul and Rand Paul.
The state GOP conventions have often been acrimonious as the neocon establishment goes through its death throes to keep liberty from encroaching into leadership position. However, the neocon movement is walking dead. Its intellectual foundation is crumbling now because of the power of Ron Paul's argument. It is a matter of time before it is completely destroyed.
That is not good news for President Obama as he also is a neocon. Obama has expanded government tremendously in his first term. The idea he would serve a second is truly frightening. Without any concern about re-election, Obama would have no restraint in his expansionist agenda. Thus, Rand Paul's statement he would support Romney was necessary.
Will Ron Paul also eventually endorse Romney? That will depend on some concrete steps by Romney toward the direction of liberty.
If nothing else, Romney has proven that he will change his political position if it means he will be elected. Romney needs the liberty movement. Watch for him to distance himself from the Federal Reserve and watch for him to make comments about getting our troops back home. These are political statements that will encourage Ron Paul to endorse him. If Romney moves in our direction, then we might even vote for him instead of Governor Gary Johnson.

Pitching. The Gamecock pitching staff is relatively well-rested as compared to the opponent. Clemson and Coastal must pitch their best starter in the noon game or they will risk elimination. It's do or die for them so they cannot afford to hold back anything. Clemson will likely throw Dominic Leone (6-4, 5.49) against Coastal. Clemson is also without their best starting pitcher, Kevin Brady (2.54, eleven starts). He threw over three innings (54 pitches), taking the loss yesterday. (See Clemson season statistics here.)
Coastal and Clemson will have used up one extra starting pitching, and possibly more relievers in the noon game today. For the sole survivor of those teams, pitching depth will be a major factor.
The Gamecocks, on the other hand, may have partially depleted their bullpen by pitching Price for more than three innings (68 pitches). The Gamecocks also pitched Beal and Webb in the victory yesterday. However, they threw only 19 and 22 pitches, respectively, so they could pitch today if needed.

The loser of this game will face Coastal Carolina in an elimination game.
Gossett, Clemson's starter, is a freshman righthander. According to Clemson's Gossett Bio Page, he was one of the "most decorated players in the 2012 incoming class [and ranked] #47 freshman in the nation in the preseason by Baseball America."
Gossett is 6-3 on the year and has started 9 games this year. Gossett is third on the Tigers in total innings pitched, and has a 4.50 earned run average. (See Clemson's statistics page.)
Gossett is a strike out pitcher. He averages 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings, and opponents hit only .227 against him.
Starting a flamethrower is probably a smart strategy by JackLeg. The fewer baseballs that the Gamecocks put into play, the lower the probability Clemson fielders will choke and commit errors trying to field them.
Gossett is a wild man on the mound. He has 9 wild pitches on the year, and has hit six batters. Besides that, Gossett allows almost five walks a game. That could spell doom for Clemson if the umpire has a tight strike zone.

Today's Game Determines SEC Championship
The Gamecocks technically lead the SEC now by 1/2 game ahead of LSU and Kentucky. A Gamecock win means that the Gamecocks are SEC Champions. However, if LSU wins, then the Gamecocks will be 1/2 away from first and LSU will win at least a share of the SEC championship.
South Carolina will send junior RHP Colby Holmes (6-0, 3.29 ERA) to the mound on Saturday. LSU counters with sophomore RHP Ryan Eades (5-2, 3.75 ERA).
Mathematically, Kentucky, which has already dropped two games this weekend, can still share in the championship with LSU if they can beat Mississippi State today in Starkville.

Gamecock Baseball Season Championship to Be Decided on the Banks of Congaree
Whether the Gamecocks win an SEC baseball championship will be decided by the winner of the South Carolina -- LSU series beginning Thursday night ... and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Assuming a Gamecock series win, Kentucky would be the champion by just winning their series against the Bulldogs. Florida has been mathematically eliminated from contention.
Kentucky is traveling to play a very tough Mississippi State Bulldog team. Even though the Bulldogs have no shot at an SEC regular season championship, their team will not roll over for Kentucky next weekend. Kentucky has not had to face the pressure of SEC championship baseball. The Bulldogs win at least two of those games against Kentucky, and maybe all three.
That means if the Gamecocks sweep or win at least two games on the banks of the Congaree, they would win an SEC title. Here are the current standings:
